- What is ethnogvessr?
The daily EthnoGuessr, played in a fresco atlas. Each day you place ten groups on a world map from their composite faces, then save one plate of your whole day for the group chat. Friends, groups and streaks work without accounts. How to play covers the rules.
- Is "ethnoguesser" the same game?
Yes. EthnoGuessr is often spelled ethnoguesser or ethno guesser. It's the same daily game.
- Is it free? Are there ads?
It's free, with no ads, no cookies, no analytics and no accounts. It runs on free hosting plans that stop rather than bill, so it can't cost anyone money.
- When does the daily reset?
At midnight UTC. That's 8pm in New York in summer, 1am in London in summer.
- Can I play past days?
No. ethnogvessr plays today's ten only. Your record keeps your past scores, your streak and a five-week calendar.
Friends and your record
- How do I play with friends?
Open your record with the people icon, top left. Send a friend an invite link, or start a group and drop its link in your group chat. Once you've finished the day, you see their scores and your head-to-head record. Everything shared between friends is end-to-end encrypted; How it works explains exactly how.
- Do I need an account? What happens to my streak on a new phone?
No account. Your history lives on your device. To keep it across devices, link them: your phone, laptop and home-screen app become one record. You can also save a recovery key, which restores everything if you lose every device.
- Does a share link spoil the day?
No. A share link carries your ten round scores and your Anthropologus number, nothing else: no answers, no regions, and never your name.

- Where do the faces come from?
The composites originate at humanphenotypes.net. Each is an average of many photographs, not a portrait of a real person, and no face tells you where any one person is from.
- How do I put it on my home screen?
On iPhone, open ethnogvessr.com in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, open the Chrome menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen. A home-screen app also keeps your streak safe, because browsers can clear a site's data after a week away.
- Why is it spelled with a V?
Roman inscriptions carve U as V, as in VNVS ET VERVS. The name is set the way a stonecutter would have set it. Why says the rest.
